Meservy Girls Visit the Windy City

We've had a real treat these past couple of days of having all three of Chris' sisters visit us! I decided I don't need one nanny, I need three and they all need to be these girls:

Bailey, Ashley, Mallory

They too decided it's nice to have three of them. One can play with the boys and exhaust themself then switch off with another sister to rest while the boys go full steam ahead. How do I do it they asked? I don't! The boys simply have more fun when company is around and are sad when they leave:(

While they've been here they've mainly played with the boys and we've managed to fit shopping in on magnificent mile and the zoo. While at home Jared has enjoyed playing Candy Land, Simon Says, and doing homework with Bailey (he sat by her doing his "homework" for well over 10 mins if not 20. During which he innocently asked Bailey, "Can I keep my homework? I don't want to turn it in.)While they were here we enjoyed good food, home cooked and eat out. We tried a new place, Smoke, suggested by friends and loved it, and of course took them to Unos for my favorite pizza here four cheese and pesto, YUM!We also went to the zoo, did more shopping, tried to work off the food to p90x ab ripper, and played games together. These girls love our boys so much and we really will miss them already! When I picked up Jared from his friends after dropping the girls off at the airport he told his friends, "I'm going to see my aunts!" He wasn't too happy when I explained they had to go home. Please come back often!

Precious Moments

I was able to make several posts this morning cause both boys slept in till about 9:00:)! I had the monitor on waiting for the signal to go get them when I hear Spencer cry. I was about ready to turn it off and head downstairs but then I heard Jared say, "What are you doing? I'm right here, I'm right here." Followed by laughing and then, "Do you like me Spencer?" Talk about heart warmer. I listened a little longer to see if any more context would come and then went downstairs where both boys were laughing and Jared singing (La, La to a tune).

Friday Night Fun

We had a real treat this past Friday of having some friends of ours (Joy and Johnny) bring over their equipment to make homemade pasta!

They made A LOT of pasta and Jared was there cranking up until they last "brick". Joy later said she felt like it was child labor but he didn't mind a bit! Not only was it fun to watch/make (I really did nothing but watch), but it was delicious! We ate soooo much and surprised ourselves.

I was able to contribute a little to the dinner by making a yummy salad that I got from a friend. (It has baby arugula, apples, bacon, cranberries, and baked nuts with a citrus dressing, YUM!) I also had beginners luck in making my first homemade angel food cake. Jared had fun with this as well and loved saying angel cake. Here's my only evidence of making/having angel food cake:

Too much fun all the way around. Great company, great food, and good fun!

Just Because...

He's usually even better. You know how it is as soon as they see the camera it's either a little more timid or too extreme. I personally like to see a little more hip movement come from him:)

Adjusting to a Hard Working Man

So it's been about a month since Chris' work has really picked up and kept him busy. During that time we're ReallY lucky if Chris is home by 6:30 (mainly only Monday nights). The rest of the time it's either right before the kids go to bed or just late. The kids probably see him two out of the five nights of the week and occassionly three. At first when this routine started I honestly didn't know how long I'd last. Can I just say that having an amazing husband/father makes it way hard to not see him, especially the kids! They adore Chris and would often cry/complain when I told them he was coming home after they went to bed (this is mainly Jared). And lately Jared has been sleeping in til after 8:00 so he doesn't see him in the morning either.


The first week I was really worried how long I could last. Quite frankly I disliked it and I know Chris did too (as far as not being with his boys) But the good thing is the boys and I have adjusted quicker than I thought. Jared doesn't complain near as much and is able to cope with what I tell him better. I've learned to just expect a late evening so I'm not disappointed. Another good thing is Chris is sensitive to both the kids and me. If I sense that Jared needs more dad time I just tell him tonight you need to be home for dinner and he comes, and if I've had all I can have then he comes and rejuvinates me.

As much as it stinks not having our dad/husband around as much we are so grateful he does have a job and for the most part enjoys it. He doesn't come home complaining (yet) and still makes a valiant effort to be with us when he is able to. I guess now we've just hit "real" life! I know tons of other people who do this and have done this for years. To excel in anything you have to put in the hours, do the grunt work, and be a hard worker to reap the dividends. I love him dearly and so grateful that even though he's busy he still comes home and makes me happy and smile. I don't know how I got so lucky to have him!

Last Soccer Day

After a couple of months of soccer I think I'm safe to say Jared did improve. He has a little more control and gets closer to getting the ball in the net. One thing that didn't change from the first day to the last is he left both days with his hair all sweaty. Odd that it didn't happen much throughout but both the first and last day he ran pretty much the whole time. Here's some pictures to highlight today:

Spencer loves to be in the thick of it and they were always so good to include and let him where he could. Whenever they sat in groups he'd always wiggle his way in and often sit on someone's lap.

Just Do What Jared Said...

One day this week I had called Chris to see when he was coming home. He told me had to get something done before he left so as soon as he was done he'd be on his way. I replied, "Okay I'm going to let you go so you can get back to work and come home."

Well Jared loves to talk to Chris when he hears me talking to him. It was no different this time. He proceeded with his usual conversation, "Come home dad, don't go to work." He continued to complain trying to get Chris to come home and I cut in, "Jared you've got to let dad work so he can come home." To which Jared replied to Chris, "Just do your job, just do your work. In the name of Jesus Christ (pause) Bye."

It was so cute! His pause at the end was priceless cause you could tell his mind was thinking "wait, this isn't a prayer!"

About five minutes later I called Chris for a new thing and asked him if he got his salutation. He asked if Jared was saying a prayer. I quoted him and that made his day as well as mine. Love these boys!
